Don’t Wait for Replacement Windows, Save Cold Cash with a Winter Install

by Hoffman Weber Construction, on December 10, 2014

If your old windows are causing drafts and wasting energy, you don’t have to wait until spring to replace them.  Hoffman Weber can install windows in cold weather without making anyone uncomfortable – at least not you.

Dog Looking Out Window

It’s true that most people prefer to have replacement windows installed in spring and summer. That’s our busiest time.  However, by scheduling your project over the winter, you can beat the rush and reap the rewards during the costliest part of the heating season.

How We Beat The Cold

For our safety and your comfort, we approach winter window installations a little differently. First, we remove and install one window at a time to minimize heat loss from your home. If we have to make structural repairs or changes that will require the wall to be open more than 30 minutes, we can enclose the work area in plastic to block the wind. We also use special sealants and insulating materials that are designed to stick and cure in cold weather.  And if the temperature dips below acceptable the range, we will wait for a warmer day.

Don’t worry about the windows expanding and binding when the weather warms. Windows are installed with insulated gaps on the sides and tops, so they have plenty of room to stretch. Vinyl replacement windows are particularly forgiving because the gaps are finished with fin-seal strips that adapt to the width of the opening and ensure a reliable barrier through extreme temperature changes.

We typically trim around windows with prefinished aluminum that is formed on site so it can be installed at any temperature: There is no need to return in the spring to complete the job. If you are looking for wood replacement windows with a natural or enameled finish on the interior jambs and sash, they will be prefinished.  New cedar exterior trim can be left unfinished until spring or, if you prefer, we can install prefinished trim.

Don’t wait until the dog days of summer to look into replacement windows. Learn about windows and contact Hoffman Weber this month for a free in-home estimate.
